Rs. 8.62 Cr. was realized from these ticket less travel

South Central Railway continuously carries out drives against ticketless travel, irregular travel and un-booked luggage with a view to eradicate the menace of ticketless travel and to ensure comfortable/safe travel for the bona-fide passengers. The ticket checking staff and Railway Protection Force personnel undertake several kinds of checks such as regular checks, surprise checks, fortress checks, road checks etc. over all the six Divisions of the zone.

During the month of December, 2014, 2.66 lakh cases were detected which is 17.22 % higher when compared to the cases detected in the corresponding period of last year. These include 89236 cases of travel without ticket; 79426 cases of irregular travel and 97749 cases of un-booked luggage. Irregular travel includes traveling o­n transferred ticket, adults traveling o­n child ticket, non senior citizen travelling o­n senior citizen tickets, general/season ticket holder traveling in reserved coaches etc. An amount of Rs. 8.62 Cr. was realized from these ticketless travel, irregular travel and un-booked luggage cases towards penalty registering an increase of 25.34 %.

Cumulatively, during the period from April to December, 2014, 22.62 lakh cases were apprehended. These include 7.06 lakh cases of travel without tickets; 7.88 lakh cases of irregular travel and 7.69 lakh cases of un-booked luggage. An amount of Rs. 73.67 Cr. was realized from these offenders towards penalty which is 18.36% more than the penalty realized during same period of the last financial year.

The surprise checks carried out by the flying squads of the Divisions and head quarters and fortress checks conducted under direct supervision senior officials at major stations helped reduce ticketless travel.
