Vande Bharat Upgrades & Ganpati Special Trains Announced This Week

Vande Bharat Express

  • More Coaches on High-Demand Routes: In response to high passenger occupancy, Indian Railways announced the augmentation of Vande Bharat Express trains on seven key routes. Three 16-coach trains will be converted to 20-coach trains, and four 8-coach trains will be upgraded to 16-coach trains. This move aims to increase capacity and provide a better travel experience. The routes include Mangaluru Central–Thiruvananthapuram Central, Secunderabad–Tirupati, and Chennai Egmore–Tirunelveli, among others.

New Projects & Infrastructure

  • Cabinet Approves Four Major Rail Projects: The Union Cabinet has given its nod to four major railway infrastructure projects valued at approximately ₹12,328 crore. The projects aim to enhance both passenger and freight connectivity and include a new rail line in Kutch, Gujarat, and multi-tracking projects in Telangana, Karnataka, Bihar, and Assam.
  • Rail Link to Mizoram Nears Completion: The Railway Board CEO, Satish Kumar, visited Aizawl to review the progress of the 51.38 km Bairabi-Sairang new railway project. The project is an engineering marvel and is expected to be inaugurated by the Prime Minister in September, marking a significant step in connecting the Northeast to the national railway network.

Train Services & Operations

  • Ganpati Special Trains: To manage the massive passenger rush for the upcoming Ganesh Chaturthi festival, Indian Railways has announced a record number of 380 Ganpati Special train trips. Central Railway will operate the highest number of these special services.
  • Train Cancellations and Diversions in Jammu Division: Due to a weather-related issue on a bridge between Kathua and Madhopur, Northern Railway had to cancel, short-terminate, and divert several trains. The list of affected services, including Vande Bharat and Rajdhani Express trains, was frequently updated on the official Northern Railways website.
  • Extended Services for Festive Season: East Central Railway has extended the services of several passenger trains on popular routes to cater to the festive rush. This includes weekly specials between Patna and Puri and between Danapur and Bengaluru.
