State needs to reduce power tariff-Railway ministry
The demand was made in a joint meeting between Union railway minister Suresh Prabhu and chief minister Devendra Fadnavis and senior officials from both sides.
There were presentations by the Railways, BMC, Cidco and MMRDA during the meet.
The Railways, in its presentation, demanded rationalization of traction traffic. “The present tariff of MSEDCL is `9.37 per unit, which is the highest for any state on Indian Railways, whereas the Indian Railways is subsidising suburban services to a very large extent. Thus, the state needs to reduce power tariff,” said the presentation.
It further demanded that the state government share losses in suburban and passenger services. The presentation pegged losses in suburban services on the western line in 2013-14 at `517 crore and those on the central route at `900 crore.
