Bridge across the tracks could certainly prevent accidents

 

Three weeks ago, 19-year-old C Hemadri, a student of a polytechnic college in Thiruninravur on the outskirts of Chennai, was killed while crossing the railway track at Nemilichery Station, which lies on the Chennai-Arakkonam route.

Unlike many others who are hit by trains, courtesy their preference to cross tracks on foot instead of taking an over or under bridge, Hemadri had no choice. The only way to get to the Jaya group of institutions, where he was a diploma student, from the Nemilichery Station, was to cross the tracks by foot — many a time evading super-fast trains or goods trains which zoom past on the non-suburban lines.
