Thousands of residents are risking their lives every day due to presence of unmanned railway crossings on the outskirts of the city. There are six such crossings on Dehradun-Haridwar road alone.

The most dangerous of them all, however, is the one at Nakronda, 14 km from the state capital. There are at least four government schools and two private ones precariously close to the railway line, with hundreds of children crossing the tracks without hint of even an alert.
