Southern Railway Achievements during July & August 15

  • To help the waitlisted passengers and to cater to the extra rush of traffic, Southern Railway operated 65 special trains in July, 2015 as compared to 33 special trains in July, 2014, marking an improvement of 97%.In August, 2015, 100 special trains were run as compared to 53 special trains in August, 2014, marking an improvement of 88.7%.
  • 402 unreserved special trains were run in July, 2015 as against 62 special trains in July, 2014, marking an increase of 548%.In August, 2015, 412 unreserved special trains were run compared to 74 in August, 2014, an increase of 457%.
  • Southern Railway temporarily augmented various trains by 468 coaches in July, 2015 as against temporary augmentation by 406 coaches in July, 2014.In August, 2015, various trains were temporarily augmented by 543 coaches as compared to temporary augmentation by 467 coaches in August, 2014.
  • 12 pairs of IRCTC special trains were run in July, 2015 as against 10 pairs in July, 2014.In August, 2015, 12 pairs of IRCTC special trains were run as compared to 10 pairs in August, 2014.
  • Gauge conversion works between Chengalpattu – Ottivakkam – Karunguzhi (20 km) were completed and Commissioner for Railway Safety inspected the stretch o­n 03.09.2015.With this, the entire doubling works between Chengalpattu – Villupuram (103 km) have been completed.
  • Gauge conversion works between Pollachi – Palakkad Town (54 km) have been completed and the section is ready for inspection by Commissioner for Railway Safety.As part of gauge conversion works between Pollachi – Palakkad, Electronic Interlocking arrangement has been provided at Palakkad Town.
  • With regard to interlocking of level crossing gates, 12 level crossing gates have been interlocked upto 31.08.2015.
  • Station Ticketet Booking Sevak (STBS) facility was commissioned at 5 locations during July taking the overall count of STBS locations to 63.
  • Yatri Ticket Seva Kendra was commissioned at Erode o­n 22.07.2015.
  • Jansadharan Ticket Booking Sevak (JTBS) facility was commissioned at 2 locations taking the overall count of JTBS locations in Southern Railway to 143.
  • Automatic Ticket Vending Machines (ATVM) were commissioned at 30 locations during July & August, 2015.The overall ATVM locations as o­n date counts to 124.
  • A new Traction Substation has been commissioned at a cost of Rs.15.41 crores at Villupuram as part of the o­ngoing Villupuram – Tiruchchirappalli doubling works.With the commissioning of this Traction Substation, more trains can be taken over o­n electric traction in the section.
  • One escalator was commissioned o­n 22.08.2015 at Thiruvananthapuram railway station o­n PF no.4/5 at a cost of Rs.90 lakhs.Further, 2 lifts were also commissioned o­n 22.08.2015 at the same station o­n PF no.1 and 2/3 at a cost of Rs.32.5 lakhs each.
  • 109 criminals were arrested for theft of railway property worth Rs.3.32 lakhs in 73 cases registered under RP (UP) Act.
  • 18770 defaulters were apprehended under various provisions of Railways Act and prosecuted.Rs.48.38 lakhs was collected as fine amount from them.
  • 32 criminals involved in passenger related offences were arrested and stolen articles worth Rs.66.65 lakhs were recovered from them.The criminals were handed over to GRP for further legal action.
  • 609 persons were dealt with for littering o­n railway premises under Indian Railways (Penalties for activities affecting cleanliness at railway premises) Rule 2012 and an amount of Rs.1,56,510 was collected as fine from them.
  • On 17 occasions, RPF seized contraband goods worth Rs.6,00,498 and handed over to the concerned law enforcing agencies along with the offenders for further legal action.
  • 67 run away children were secured by RPF from various railway stations and handed over to their parents / child help line.
  • Multi Functional Complexes (to provide rail users facilities such as shopping, restaurants, book stalls, budget hotels, underground parking etc.) have been sanctioned at 21 important railway stations (11 in Kerala and 10 in Tamil Nadu).The MFCs at Kannur, Tiruvalla and Kanniyakumari were commissioned during July – August, 2015.The facilities at these MFCs will be of great help to the rail users.
