This has background with the no facility for easy change of name either online or offline. It is never or rare that TTE will harass a passenger solely due to this matter.
Changing the name of a passenger in a confirmed reservation ticket was quite difficult and involved a lot of procedure to be followed. This has been made to prevent possible misuse of facility by the agents and brokers, as changing name(s) itself means transfer of authority of travel.Today this can be done quite easily in a matter of few minutes only.
Facility in the name change of passenger holding confirmed reservation has been permitted as per extant Railway rules noted as under:-
a. Where the passenger makes a request in writing 24 hours before the scheduled departure of train to the nearest Railway Reservation office. It can be transferred to an-other member of his family, meaning, Father, Mother, Brother, Sister, Son, Daughter, Husband and Wife. He should bring the ‘Electronic Reservation Slip’ print out along with photo identity card proof in original & a proof for blood relation desired to be changed .
b. Where the passenger is a Government Servant proceeding on duty and appropriate authority, makes a request in writing 24 hours before the scheduled departure of train. (More details Like Railway Ticket Transfer or etc Click Here)
Practically For the E ticket and in general, the ID card is a must. If it is the same ticket, then only one person in the whole team need to show the ID Card. So the two persons who have the ID card can be ready with their cards and hope the other two person’s age coincide somewhat with the wrongly spelt name and age.
So under normal circumstances, unless you look worried or give away or ask questions, show the ID card of one person and that should be it.
