भारतीय रेलवे ने मिडिल बर्थ के लिए जो नियम तय किए हैं, उसके मुताबिक अगर आपकी मिडिल बर्थ है तो आप 24 घंटे इसका इस्तेमाल नहीं कर सकते हैं, जैसा अपर बर्थ वाले करते हैं।
अपर बर्थ वालों के लिए ये फायदेमंद होता है कि वो कभी भी ऊपर वाली सीट पर जाकर आराम कर सकते हैं, जबकि मिडिल बर्थ वालों के साथ ऐसा नहीं है।

रेलवे के नियमों के मुताबिक, आप सिर्फ रात में सोने के लिए ही मिडिल बर्थ का इस्तेमाल कर सकते हैं। इसके अलावा आपको अपनी बर्थ बंद ही रखनी होगी.
मिडिल बर्थ के इस्तेमाल का समय रात 10 बजे से लेकर सुबह छह बजे तक होता है। रात के 10 बजे से पहले अगर कोई व्यक्ति सोने के लिए मिडिल बर्थ का इस्तेमाल करना चाहे, तो नियम के मुताबिक उसे ऐसा करने से रोका जा सकता है।
