Rs 2,400-crore plan to procure 15 EMU rakes from abroad
Though the top speed for a Rajdhani Express (with LHB rake) is about 140 km per hour, the average speed is rarely above 90 km per hour. This happens as the locomotives used to haul the rakes take a lot of time to accelerate. In comparison, the EMU rakes can attain average speeds of 130 km per hour. This should bring down the travel time between Howrah and New Delhi by almost four hours. They will also be nearly 25% more energy-efficient. (http://timesofindia.indiatimes.com)
