The bio-toilets were seen overflowing with excreta from which a foul smell spread through the entire coach, complained a railway passenger during a recent journey. The bio-toilets are not serving their purpose.
DRDO’s bio-toilets are getting blocked with major glitches. Indian Railways, the toilets’ main user, is getting hundreds of daily complaints from passengers from its 17 zones, and its top officials can’t find a solution.
Railways officials said 95 per cent of these toilets are faulty, The Railways planned to install 2.5 lakh toilets in all coaches by October 2, 2019.
The project cost Rs 1,000 Crore.
As per Railway : We clean bio-toilets only when the train reaches the depot. Passengers should stop dumping waste clothes, bottles, sanitary napkins and diapers inside the toilet and flush it. All these block inflow of waste which leads to the mess.”
